Hi, my name is Tomas, a natáhl jsem ruku. Nezmohla na jediné slovo. Jen naprázdno otevírala pusu. On situaci zachránil a představil sebe i ji. Roman a Anna. Z Ukrajiny. No nevadí. Když odešli, vrátil jsem se k vaření. Raději už bez tance.
Netrvalo ale dlouho a Anna byla zpět. Tak jsem se ptal, jak se má a jaký měla den. Bez odpovědi došla až k ledničce, otevřela ji a prstem s gelovým nehtem mířila na mou perfektně uspořádanou poličku v lednici. Is this your stuff, tázala se přímo. Kdyby měla místo nehtu malý laserový ukazovátko, do banánu by mi vypálila díru. No, no, no, my shelf, very important for me! No a teď se mi to tady všechno zkazí v tom teple, pokračovala ve své show. Pochopil jsem – musí to být teď hned. Ne až dojím. Teď. Hned!
Meet Ukraine
So today I finally met all the inhabitants of our apartment. In the midst of my wild dance to the rhythm of bubbling water for spaghetti and hit Marry the Night had come to the kitchen a girl with short hair and no taller than the average Filipino, and when she saw me, she seemed to have met with the devil himself. I didn't know where the scare came from whether my exuberant moves or singing. Anyhow, she seemed to collapse. She had leaned against the door-frame and soon after her boyfriend appeared from behind her shoulders. Tall, with shoes tied up above the knee. Extraordinary. They looked like flip flops and shin guards in one. If lucky, I'll get photographic documentation in case of reopening of the Roman Coliseum.
Hi, my name is Tomas, I extended my hand. She didn't manage a single word. Just opened her mouth idle. He saved the situation and introduced himself and her. Roman and Anna. From Ukraine. Anna spoke up only, asking where I am from. Firstly, she looked bored and then she said she didn't know Czech or Prague. Never mind. When they left, I went back to cooking. Better not dancing again.
It did not take long and Anna was back. So I asked how was her day and how is she. With no answer she came across to the fridge, opened it and with a gel nail pointed to my perfectly arranged shelf in the fridge. Is this your stuff, she asked directly. If she'd had a small laser pointer instead of the nail, she would have burned a hole into my banana. Yes, these are my things, Malvin (the landlord) told me that this is the shelf for me, I replied, but it was clear that the storm is coming. No, no, no, my shelf, very important for me! Okay, okay, it's not the annexation of the Crimea after all. I promised to move my things elsewhere, as soon as I finish and eat my first dinner in the new apartment. She left to get back in a few minutes. She started putting out some things from the fridge. Then left again to be back again with Sarah, explaining how towering injustice had happened and pointed to all the food that was hers, which she had just taken out of the fridge and set up all over the kitchen. Well and now, all my food gets spoiled in the heat, she continued. I understood - it must be now. Not when I finish. Now! Immediately! So I took my stuff off the shelf that I had cleaned for 15 minutes from curd stains and moved my belongings to another shelf. Little Napoleon reoccupied territories and I didn't see her more that evening.
Most likely, we are not gonna be buddies with Ukraine.
